FROM PULLMAN — Washington State guard Brett Kingma, who joined the team this season after transferring from Oregon, was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of possession of marijuana less than 40 grams, and minor exhibiting the effects of having consumed alcohol in a public place. Pullman Police Sgt. Dan Dornes said officers approached Kingma in the Northeast 900 block of Monroe Street this morning at 1:53 after Kingma was seen "staggering all over the sidewalk."

It was determined that Kingma, age 20, was intoxicated, Dornes said, and police also found Kingma to be in possession of "several grams" of marijuana, though fewer than 40.

Kingma was cited and booked at the Pullman PD station at 2:01 a.m., and was released at 4:34 a.m. Both alleged offenses are misdemeanors.

A WSU spokesperson said coaches are aware of the situation and will take appropriate action.

Kingma, a native of Mill Creek, Wash., is redshirting this season per NCAA transfer rules. He played sparingly at Oregon last season as a freshman and is a walk-on for the Cougars this year.
