Coeur d'Alene Wins IEL with 21-7 Victory over Lake City

Posted: Updated:

Lake City traveled to Coeur d'Alene Friday night with the winner taking the IEL 2012 championship.

After a botched snap by Lake City deep in their own zone, Reece Mahaffy took advantage and delivered a short touchdown for the early lead. Lake City answered when quarterback Bruce Shipley found a hole and raced down the sideline for 63 yards. He was eventually taken down at the 2-yard line and Brandon Johnson was able to finish it off to give Lake City the 7-6 lead.

It was anybody's game headed into the 2nd half as the score remained 7-6, and the game was waiting for somebody to take over. That person was Gunnar Amos as he had 217 total yards in addition to his two rushing touchdowns in the second half.

The Vikings would go on to win the game and the IEL title as the 2-time defending state champions are ready for another deep playoff run.
