Americans prepare for longest road trip of season

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- It is the longest road trip of the season for the Tri-City Americans. They have seven straight games away from the Toyota Center. Saturday is the first of six games in eight days, starting with a game against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Then the road trip ends on the 26th in Seattle. The Ams talk about going on such a long road trip this point of the season.

"It's fun. Movies are always in. Cards are out. Guys have laptops, cell phones, whatever to kind of pass the 26 hours or whatever we have to do. So it's going to be a long one, but it's a good time early in the year to do some team bonding and stuff like that," defenseman Mitch Topping said.

"Try and rest actually, believe it or not. Coming off this weekend, we've got to make sure we don't burn ourselves out over the next couple of days in prep to go six [games] in eight [days]. So we just want to stay sharp a little bit, and make sure when we get out there we're fresh and healthy," head coach Jim Hiller added.
