In a matchup of 1 loss teams, Mead and Central Valley went to battle Thursday night looking to keep in striking distance of undefeated Gonzaga Prep for the GSL crown.

Luke Hilmes of Mead continued to replace starting running back Davian Barlow Thursday night, and continued to do an outstanding job of it.

Hilmes got the Panthers started with a 73 yard touchdown in the 1st quarter when he broke free on an inside handoff to give Mead the early 7-0 lead.

After a long touchdown pass by Gunnar Kayser in the 2nd quarter to make it 14-0, Hilmes broke loose again. This time he went for 61 yards giving Mead a 3 touchdown lead.

CV (5-2) would try to rally late with scores from Brandon McClung and Austin Rehkow, but Hilmes' 221 rushing yards proved to be too much for the Bears as Mead moves to 6-1, defeating the Bears 28-16.
