Bring Back the Replacement Refs!

Posted: Updated:

So the replacement refs are no more in the NFL. Man, were they fun to watch or what! You just never knew what was going to happen from play to play. Some people found that to be annoying- I thought it was exciting! I mean, where else could a meaningless 3-yard run turn into an official review that results in change of possession and an automatic touchdown for the defense? Ok so that's a little exaggerated, but you know what I mean.

Leading up to the "Miracle on Monday Night" play in which the Seahawks absolutely stole a game from the Packers thanks to the replacement officials,  it was already one of the worst officiated games I can remember. I'll say this:  those guys got their money's worth in the 3 weeks of regular season games. I think they had more camera time than President Obama on late night television!

So now the union officials are back and things should get better. The team that should win the game will win, the ball will be spotted correctly, and there won't be extra timeouts granted . What's the fun in that! Let's hope the "good" refs are worth the $149,000/year they are getting this year- increasing to $205,000 in 2019. Not bad for a part-time job. I'm sure the construction worker in Spokane Valley working 50 hours a week for $40k can really empathize with what they just went through. Enjoy the games!
