For the second straight week, poor air quality has forced high school football programs to make adjustments to their schedules.
The game between Genesee and Troy, which was slated to be played at Troy was moved to Potlatch Friday afternoon. Administrators said the air was too smoky in Troy. Last week it was Genesee who played their game against Garfield-Palouse inside the Kibbie Dome because of the same smoky air conditions.
By mid-afternoon, school officials in Moscow canceled their game against Colfax.
Schools in Eastern Washington were also affected. Davis postponed its game against Moses Lake, while the games between Selah and East Valley (Yak.), and Othello and West Valley (Yak.) were also called off. And Highland also called off its game against LaSalle.
Colton postponed its game against Garfield-Palouse Friday night and said they hoped to play the game sometime on Monday.
Smoke from wildfires in central and eastern Washington are to blame for the poor air quality. Whitman County Public Health has gone as far as to recommend canceling outdoor activities and events until the smoke clears.
Forecasters, including SWX's Leslie Lowe, predict a weak front will move through the region on Tuesday that will probably scrub the air and improve conditions.
