SPOKANE, Wash. -
With the NHL season on hold because of a labor lockout, it is "game on" for the Western Hockey League and the Spokane Chiefs.
Spokane opens the 2012 season Saturday night on the road against rival Tri-City – a game seen live on SWX in the Spokane region.
The Chiefs return several key players from last year's squad, including Brenden Kichton and Blake Gal. But it is going to take an entire team to be successful.
"[We are] a very hard-working team," said Kichton. "We've got guys who come to the rink everyday and work really hard. That is our goal this year. I don't think we have the most skilled team, but if we work hard and play our structured hockey we can be up there with any team in the league."
Saturday's match at the Toyota Center begins at 7 p.m.
