Leach: Mandatory Injury Report Would Violate HIPAA Laws

Updated:

If the Pac-12 goes ahead and institutes a system for reporting injuries to the media, don't expect to Washington State coach Mike Leach to go along with it.

Leach made it clear he has no intentions of telling everyone and anyone how his players are feeling from week to week during the football season. The reasons, he said, are twofold. First, it could be a matter of legality. Secondly, it comes down to privacy.

"I would still refuse, I would still be elusive on it," said Leach. "It would still violate the HIPPA law, which would be interesting to me if the Pac-10 could get that law overturned. Nah. It's nobody's business. And plus, obviously, if some kid doesn't want to you to know, why should you? No, I still wouldn't tell."

So far, reporters have been banned form writing about injuries at Washington, USC and UCLA. At Washington State, Leach simply says "we don't have injuries around here."

But Jim Mora at UCLA said he wouldn't fight an injury report if it were mandated by the conference. That isn't to say he is in favor of reporting injuries. He isn't. But he doesn't want to make waves, apparently, either.

What would YOU do?
