KENNEWICK, WA – Tri-City Americans Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the team has acquired 17-year-old defenseman Brodie Clowes from the Victoria Royals in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft.

Clowes, a 6'2 185-pound defenseman from Calgary, Alberta, was originally a 5th round (90th overall) selection by Victoria in the 2010 Bantam Draft and made his WHL debut against Everett on February 8, 2012.  In 2011-12, Clowes appeared in 46 games for the Olds Grizzlys of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, collecting one goal, 13 points and 56 penalty minutes in his rookie season.  Clowes, who will join the Americans immediately, is currently recovering from a training camp injury and will begin his rehabilitation in Tri-City.  He is expected to miss the first month of the season.

"I watched Brodie play last season in the AJHL and became excited about his potential," Tory explained.  "When he became available via trade, I felt this was a move necessary to fill a depth chart need for our club."

Tory continued by saying that "with Brodie having a late birthday, he will bring size and depth to our blueline not only this season but also for the future."

After a busy weekend, the Americans will now head down the homestretch of the 2012 WHL Pre-Season schedule.  Tri-City will wrap-up the exhibition season with a doubleheader weekend, which kicks off on Friday, September 14.  Before traveling to Kelowna for a match-up with the Rockets on Saturday, Tri-City will square off against the rival Spokane Chiefs on Friday at the Toyota Center.  Game time is 7:05 p.m.
