SPOKANE, Wash. -

The Whitworth Pirates, coming off a win last weekend against Saint Scholastica, is ready to do it all over again this week.

Last Saturday's win on the road was the Pirates' first season-opening victory since 2008.Yes, they played a good game. But luckily for the Bucs, there is still plenty of room for improvement.

"We had a great win at Saint Scholastica but we can't let any hangover happen, we gotta stay good," said offensive lineman Liam Brown.

What can Whitworth improve?

"Finishing," said safety Casey Monahan. "We shut them down the first half. In the second half they got a little more yards on us. We just have to play four quarters on defense."

Coach John Tully said he was impressed with the play of his offensive and defensive lines, and he hopes the units can continue to improve as the season progresses.

"They really controlled the line of scrimmage," said Tully of the offensive line. "Our defensive line – I thought they would be good as the year went on, but they were really a pleasant surprise."

Whitworth's next game is Saturday on the road at Whittier. The Bucs then play at LaVerne the following week before coming home to play Chapman on September 22.
