Dust Devils Drop Series Opener to Hawks

By Tri-City Dust Devils

The Tri-City Dust Devils fell behind early and could not recover, falling 7-2 to the Boise Hawks on Thursday night at Gesa Stadium. The Dust Devils trailed the entire game to the first place Hawks, who are now six games ahead of Tri-City in the race for the second half championship in the Northwest League's East Division.

For the sixth straight game the Tri-City starter went four or less innings in his outing. It was Roberto Padilla (2-4) who struggled for the Dust Devils on Thursday. The left-hander suffered the loss after giving up five earned runs off of seven hits and six walks.

Tri-City relievers Chris Dennis and Angel Reyes were solid out of the bullpen, keeping the Hawks scoreless during the middle innings. Control was an issue throughout the night for the Dust Devils' pitching staff. The team allowed nine walks and hit two batters over the course of the game.

The Dust Devils scored their only runs of the game in the fifth inning. Rosell Herrera drove in two runs, singling with the bases loaded and one out. Despite getting at least one runner aboard in seven innings, the Dust Devils could only capitalize in the fifth.

Patrick Hutcheson was the only Tri-City player to have more than one hit in the game. The third baseman came through at the plate with two of the team's six hits.
