Spokane, WA - The AquaSox showed no ill effects of losing their star hitter and first-round pick Mike Zunino. One night after their hard-hitting catcher was promoted three levels to Double-A Jackson, Everett's Taylor Ard, Marcus Littlewood, Michael Faulkner, and Rusty Shellhorn picked up the slack as the Aquasox dropped the Indians 5-1.
Former Washington State Cougar Ard ignited a four run Everett rally with an RBI single off Jose Valdespina (1-6) in the top of fourth. Littlewood, who stepped in at catcher in Zunino's stead, finished the game 2-3 with an RBI, and Faulkner chipped in a pair of hits and two RBI.
The Indians couldn't get anything started against Liberty Lake native Rusty Shellhorn (3-2), who held Spokane to five hits and no runs while striking out seven over six sterling frames. Aquasox reliever Mark Bordonaro allowed the Indians lone run in the seventh inning and Matthew Vedo closed out the game in the ninth.
Spokane picked up just seven hits in the contest, with three coming off the suddenly scalding bat of Patrick Cantwell and two from outfielder Royce Bolinger. Cantwell has eight hits over his last two games to raise his average to .302 and Bolinger's first inning single extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
