Spokane, WA - There's a reason Mike Zunino was the third overall pick in this year's MLB Draft. The ultra-talented slugger from the University of Florida ripped a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning, and Everett held off a late Spokane rally in their 6-5 win in front of 5,899 fans at Avista Stadium for Fireworks Night presented by The Black Book, 103.1 KCDA, and The Splash.
Zunino's longball was one of four hits on the night for the AquaSox designated hitter, as he fell just a triple short of the cycle while picking up four RBI. Despite Zunino's herculean effort, the Indians still found themselves in position to win, as they loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth. Spokane's last chance went for naught though, as Ryan Rua popped out and Barrett Serrato struck out to end the threat.
Spokane's offense continued its second half surge as a two-run homer from Cam Schiller over the Hallmark Suzuki Grotto in the fifth and a solo shot from Preston Beck off the top of The Black Book Depot in the sixth gave the Indians a short-lived 5-3 advantage.
Starter Eric Brooks allowed one run in three innings pitched and Alec Asher struck out four AquaSox over 2.1 frames of scoreless relief.
Schiller finished the night with three hits and three RBI to raise his season average to .280.
