The battle continues in Seattle for the Huskies starting running back job, and former Gonzaga Prep star Bishop Sankey is still in the running.
Washington is looking for a replacement for Chris Polk, who rushed for 1,488 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.
With Polk now in the NFL, it is up to someone else to fill his shoes. The candidates include Sankey and Jesse Callier, and not Deontae Cooper. Cooper, who has suffered ACL tears in his left knee for the past two seasons, suffered a season-ending tear in his right knee on Wednesday.
Sankey, for one, is relying on what he learned from Polk last year to propel him into the spotlight this year.
"I just take bits and pieces of what he taught me when he was here last year and try to apply them to my game this year," said Sankey. "I just use the little teachings he game me and try to make the best of them."
"I think we're going to score more touchdowns [than last year]," said Callier. "Obviously we have a lot of talented guys – from the freshmen to the seniors – and we're all hungry."
