CHENEY, Wash. -

The Eastern Eagles are hoping to fly under the radar as they prepare for the upcoming coming.

Head coach Beau Baldwin is back for a fifth season, as the team opened fall camp Wednesday afternoon in Cheney.

The one-time national champions are coming off a 6-5 season and have been tabbed to finish second to Montana State this year in the expanded Big Sky.

The Eagles feel they have a good mix of new and old this year – from sixth-year linebacker Zach Johnson, to transfer quarterback Kyle Padron.

"For us, this first [practice], it's anticipation – seeing what guys did over the summer, they're all excited," said Baldwin.

"It's really exciting," said Johnson. "In football you have to love the process because it us such a long offseason, but for me personally this was probably the longest one."

"It's a fun time right now, it's my first time being out on a practice field in about 44 weeks," said Padron, who wasn't in Cheney for spring football. "It's been a while but I'm just excited. I have a good group of guys around me."

"I'm extremely excited," added receiver Brandon Kaufman. "It's been a long time for me and for a lot of these guys the work they put in over the summer, I'm sure they all are just as excited as I am."
