Big inning propels Dust Devils to victory

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -- The Tri-City Dust Devils drove in seven runs in the seventh inning to lift the team to a 9-3 victory over the Vancouver Canadians on Wednesday night at Gesa Stadium. The Dust Devils (7-8 second half, 25-28 overall) had 11 hits in the game, eight of them coming in the seventh.

Vancouver starter Ben White kept Tri-City hitless through the first four innings, retiring the first 11 batters of the game. Tri-City starter Peter Tago walked in a run with the bases loaded in the first inning, and gave up two unearned runs in the fourth to give Vancouver a 3-0 lead.

Francisco Sosa put the Dust Devils on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, crushing a two-run homer, his team-high fourth of the year. Sosa finished the game with two hits and three runs batted in.

The seventh inning is where the Dust Devils did the bulk of the damage. The team scored seven runs, all coming with two outs in the inning. Seven runs set the season record for most runs scored by the team in an inning. The nine run output also tied the season high for most runs scored in a game. The Dust Devils scored nine unanswered runs off the Canadians Wednesday, after scoring eight unanswered off of Vancouver on Tuesday night.

Reliever Ryan Arrowood (2-0) earned the win after tossing three scoreless innings, including striking out the side in the fifth. Eric Brown (2-5) suffered the loss for Vancouver, surrendering seven earned runs to the Dust Devils out of the bullpen.

The five-game series between the Dust Devils and Canadians continues on Thursday night. Right-hander Shane Broyles will toe the rubber for the Dust Devils. Vancouver will counter with left-hander Nick Anderson. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. and gates open at 6:15 p.m. It is Baseball Card Giveaway Night at Gesa Stadium, presented by Wildhorse Resort and Casino, with the first 500 fans receiving a pack of Dust Devils trading cards.
