While there are not concrete answers to the questions, there certainly appeared to be plenty of options during the two-hour session at the Kibbie Dome.
MOSCOW, Idaho -

It was the offense taking it to the defense during the Idaho Vandals' first scrimmage of the summer on Tuesday.

The offense delivered nine touchdowns in the two hour practice, with four of the scores coming from the arm of Dominque Blackman.

The Vandals' defense ranked dead last in the WAC for passing yards allowed last year. With more than 400 yards given up on Tuesday, it wasn't the start the defense had hoped to see.

"We didn't have the usual energy that we have," said linebacker Thaad Thompson. "Usually we come out excited, ready to play but today we kind of came out a little flat."

"I've seen our defense perform a lot better in previous practices," said coach Robb Akey. "Hopefully this will grip their attention and they'll get after it. I'm glad to see the production that took place on the offensive side of the ball. I think it's a good first step."

Akey still hasn't decided who will be the team's starting quarterback when they step onto the field against Eastern Washington on Aug. 30. Blackman finished with 16 completions, four touchdowns and 181 yards. Taylor Davis was 6-for 14 for 75 yards and a touchdown. Former Coeur d'Alene High School star Chad Chalich had a 17-yard touchdown strike and 88 yards passing.
