Tri-City wallops Vancouver 8-1

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -- The Tri-City Dust Devils scored eight unanswered runs to lead the way to the team's 8-1 victory over the Vancouver Canadians on Tuesday night at Gesa Stadium. The Dust Devils (6-8 second half, 24-28 overall) were aided by eight walks and three errors from the Canadians in the win. Tri-City finished the game with more runs (8), than hits (6).

Starter Ben Hughes (3-4) was sharp for the Dust Devils. The right-hander allowed only one run, which was unearned, in his five and two-thirds innings of work. Tri-City relievers Chris Dennis and Ben Hughes combined to pitch three scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

Derek Jones led the way at the plate for Tri-City. Jones drove in two runs with a two-out triple in the bottom of the 5th inning to give the Dust Devils their first lead of the game. He was able to draw three walks, reaching base safely in four of his five at-bats. Francisco Sosa also contributed at the plate. Sosa had two hits, scored two runs, and stole two bases.

The lead swelled in the seventh inning for Tri-City. The Dust Devils hit through the order and brought home four insurance runs off of Vancouver reliever Nick Purday. The seven-run win is tied for the second largest margin of victory for the Dust Devils this season, only behind a nine-run victory over the Spokane Indians on July 7th

The five-game series between the Dust Devils and Canadians continues on Wednesday night. Right-hander Peter Tago will be the starting pitcher for the Dust Devils and he will be countered by Ben White for the Canadians. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m. and gates open at 6:15 p.m.
