RENTON, Wash. -

The Seahawks had the day off on Wednesday, which creates an opportune moment to consider how well the rookies have looked so far this summer.

Third round pick Russell Wilson is in the thick of the starting quarterback battle, while rookies on the defensive side of things shine as well. Eight of the Seahawks' ten draft picks were defensive players, including defensive end Bruce Irvin and second-rounder Bobby Wagner.

Both Wagner and Irvin have seen a lot of reps this week and are turning heads in the process.

"I'm excited to see Bobby Wagner had a good pick out there, and then Bruce probably had the best play of the day – chasing down a reverse and flying up the side, knocking the ball lose and recovering a fumble," said coach Pete Carroll after Tuesday's practice. "It's good to see those guys doing the kinds of things we hope really represent our style of play on the defensive side."
