The Yakima Bears lost 2-1 to the Boise Hawks Tuesday at Memorial Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The Bears had a season-low two hits in the defeat.
The Bears didn't have any hits off the starting pitcher for Boise, as Ian Dickson didn't allow a base runner until the sixth inning. Dickson had four strikeouts in six scoreless innings on the way to the win. Trailing 2-0 going in to the eighth, the Bears got pair of singles to lead-off the inning and scored on a groundout by Danny Poma.
Bears starting pitcher Daniel Watts had a quality start, but suffered the loss. Watts allowed one earned run and two runs total on six hits and two walks in six innings of work. Victor Acosta tossed a pair of scoreless innings to finish the game.
Ronnie Freeman extended his current hitting streak to six-straight games with a 1-for-3 performance. The Bears were outhit 7-2 in the loss.
The Bears are now 0-1 in the second half of the season, which is the first time the squad hasn't been at the top of the Northwest League's East Division standings. The Bears and Hawks meet in game two of the series, which is scheduled for 6:15 pacific time, Wednesday. Lefty Cody Wheeler is the probable pitcher for the Bears, while right-handed pitcher Felix Pena is the expected starter for the Hawks.
