The Yakima Bears were shutout 5-0 by the Boise Hawks Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium in Boise, Idaho. With losses in the first two games of the three-game series, the Bears streak of seven-straight series wins was snapped.
Bears starting pitcher Kyle Owings gave up a single run in each of the first two innings, then he allowed a solo home run in the fourth inning and an unearned run in the fifth. In all, Owings allowed three earned runs and four runs total on seven hits and two walks in five innings while taking the loss. In his professional debut, Chase Brewer tossed a scoreless inning. Victor Capellan gave up the final Hawks' run in the eighth, one of two innings of work for him.
The Bears were outhit 10-3 in the game, with all three hits being singles. Kevin Medrano extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a bunt single in the third and it is now the longest hitting streak in the Northwest League this season.
The Bears will finish three-game series and the eight-game road trip Wednesday at Memorial Stadium. The game is scheduled for 6:15 pacific time. Lefty Alex Carreras of the Bears is expected to face right-handed pitcher Tayler Scott of the Hawks.
