Disc Golf growing popularity in the Tri-Cities

Posted: Updated:

FINLEY, Wash. -- There is a very popular sport that many people have not heard of. It is called disc golf, and it is gaining popularity in the Tri-Cities.

Saturday the Columbia River Disc Golf Club hosted their first official (Professional Disc Golf Association) tournament. The game combines golf and discs as players compete on an eighteen hole par three course. About eighty players took part Saturday. The CRDGC plans to host more tournaments in the future.

"This is our first official PDGA tournament. We did one unofficial one called Ice Bowl that was in February I believe but this is our second one altogether," said CRDGC member Addison Wilkins.

"The most important thing is that it's free to play. You don't have to pay. You can spend if you have three discs, two discs is all you really need so maybe $25 investment and the rest of the time it's free. You get to meet lots of nice people and they all care about the community," said Shawn Hadley, the Washington State Coordinator for Disc Golf.
