Due to a series of poor investment decisions, former University of Idaho coach John L. Smith may be out of the running for the head coaching job at Arkansas.
Smith, also a former defense coordinator at Washington State, told the Associated Press he may declare bankruptcy as soon as this upcoming football season. He lost his money because of a series of bad land deals to made in Kentucky.
Arkansas hired Smith to replace outgoing coach Bobby Petrino. Smith was at Weber State at the time, but had yet to coach a single football game.
The Associated Press said the athletic department at Arkansas knew about Smith's financial woes before they hired him.
