Lagat Advances Along with Other Local Athletes

EUGENE, OR - The Olympic Trials for Track and Field continued to Eugene, and on day four, several WSU alums and local athletes advanced to the next round.

In the men's 5000 meter preliminaries, Bernard Lagat is second going in Thursday finals.  He ran 13:42.83.  Lagat will be running against his brother, Robert Cheseret, who also qualified for the finals.

In the men's discus event, Ian Waltz finished fifth in the qualifying round, throwing 201-1.  Idaho alum Russ Winger finished second with 205-5.  Lewis and Clark graduate Jason Dixon did not make it the Friday's finals.  He placed 22nd with 180-9.

In the women's 3000 steeplechase, Collier Lawrence did not advance to the finals.  She finished 19th 10:00.35.  Another former cougar, Blessing Ufodiama didn't make the cut for the women's triple jump.  She finished 10th with 42-3 1/2.

In the men's pole vault preliminaries, University High graduate Brad Walker is going into Friday's final in third place.  His best vault today was 5.4 meters.
