As the many athletes walked around Ironman Village today - ready to take on the challenge of finishing this year's Ironman - up on stage it was being announced that this iconic race is coming back to the Lake City.

The newly signed contracts guarantee the Ironman will be staying in Northern Idaho for at least the next five years.

Shane Facteau, VP of Operations for Ironman, said keeping an Ironman in one community is essential for success for both the community and the event. "One of the things we've said for the last ten years is once we go somewhere we want to stay there, and Ironman becomes engrained in a community as much as anything that can happen in that community." Facteau said.

It took a while for the city of Coeur d'Alene and the World Triathlon Corporation to come to an agreement - the two groups were trying to iron out the details on what worked best for both sides. In the end, the two sides had no worries a deal would get done.

"It's a lot more than the economic impact, it brings people to our community that have never been here before," said Coeur d'Alene Mayor Sandi Bloem.

Bloem says most importantly the Ironman has changed the physical culture of the area. "The mental attitude they have about setting a high goal, and celebrating at the end is a culture this community has adopted over the last ten years, so it's really important they're here," Bloem said. "Our athletes love it here and ultimately we want to continue that as long as possible."
