Dust Devils taking stress-free approach to Opening Day

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. -- The Tri-City Dust Devils open their season in just two days. You would think the team is nervous, anxious or jittery. However that is not the case.

"Everyone is real relaxed. I mean we always like to play games before games like you see the guys doing now and just you'll meet some of your good friends playing baseball," catcher Richard Pirkle said.

"Everyone's pretty relaxed and laid back you know and looking forward to a good Summer of baseball," added pitcher T.J. Oakes.

Like every baseball team, the Dust Devils have their very own practical jokers.

"I have a few up my sleeve that I break out every once and a while. And for the new guys it's a little more fun because all the other guys are so used to me doing it all the time. I like to lighten the mood a lot and it's all fun humor," first baseman Jordan Ribera said.

The Dust Devils say having fun is an important aspect of gelling as a team. However, they know that once they step between the lines, it is all business.

"Off the field and in the bus and in hotels we like to have fun. We like to have fun. We joke around and have a good time, but they know that once practice starts and the game starts we got to take care of business," said Freddie Ocasio, Dust Devils manager.

When Everett comes to town Friday, Tri-City will be ready.
