The Idaho men's tennis team earned a No. 6 final ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Mountain Region rankings, which were released Wednesday.
The Vandals finished the 2012 season with a 14-14 record, and ended the year by winning six straight matches to reach the Western Athletic Conference championship match before falling to Fresno State. It was Idaho's first WAC finals appearance, and the team's second-place WAC finish was the highest since joining the league in 2005-06.
"Our men's team had its ups and downs in a rebuilding year but the strong regional ranking shows how everything really started to come together at the end," Idaho coach Jeff Beaman said. "I am excited looking forward to next year and feel we will have a lot of guys breaking into the regional and national singles and doubles rankings next fall"
The Vandals were ranked as high as No. 56 in the nation early in the season before dropping out of the national rankings.
