ANAHEIM, Cali. – The Mariners got six of their eight runs with two outs beating the Angels for the first time this season 8-6 Monday night.

Kyle Seager put the M's up early with a two-out solo homer to center field in the first, but the Angels answered quickly with a sac-fly by Albert Pujols in the bottom half to score Mike Trout.

Ervin Santana walked the bases loaded with one out in the third and John Jaso ripped his first pitch through the right side to score Dustin Ackley. Pujols made a diving stop on a Mike Carp grounder and got the out at second, but Carp beat the double play throw allowing Seager to score and give Seattle a 3-1 lead.

Kendrys Morales narrowed the gap for the Angels with a solo shot in the fourth to make it 3-2.

With two outs in the fifth, Jaso singled to right and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a Carp intentional walk, Miguel Olivo singled through the left side to score Jaso. Michael Saunders walked to once again load the bases and Munenori Kawasaki came through with a bases-clearing double down the left field line to increase the Mariners lead to five.

Morales homered again to lead off the sixth and Trout hit a two-out single to score Torii Hunter and make the score 7-4.

Olivo legged out a two-out double in the seventh and scored on a double by Saunders to put the Mariners ahead 8-4.

Shawn Kelley took the mound in the eighth and the Angels loaded the bases to start off the inning with a passed ball strikeout by Howie Kendrick, Erick Aybar walk and John Hester infield single. Trout hit a sac-fly to score Kendrick and Maicer Izturis doubled to score Aybar. Tom Wilhelmsen came on in relief and induced a Pujols groundout that Hester was tagged out on and struck out Mark Trumbo to hold the lead for the M's 8-6.

Wilhemsen stayed on in the ninth and earned his first career save.

Jason Vargas went 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out eight.

Santana pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits with six walks.

Game two of the series is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:05 p.m.
