PASCO, Wash. -- Over the weekend, the Tri-City Channel Cats hosted the Tri-City Invitational swim meet.
Saturday eight swimmers won individual titles and three of them in meet-record times. It is the start of the long course season for the Channel Cats. That means they now compete in 50 meter pools instead of 25 meters. Two Channel Cats, Lisa Bratton and Natalie Ruiz, will compete in the Olympic trials in Nebraska later this month. For now the team is focused on the Summer season.
"This is our first meet as a team in the 50 meter pool. We got outside to practice in the 50 meter pool about three weeks ago. They're getting used to the change and so we're putting up some pretty good times for this early in the season," head coach Todd Stafek said.
"It just started the long course season. Friday I swam pretty well. Yesterday and today haven't swam quite as well but I feel as we swim more long course and more outside it will get better," added Lisa Bratton, who will compete in the Olympic trials this month.
