Chandler Rogers Wins FILA Cadet Greco Nationals In Akron, OH
AKRON, Ohio - Three local athletes are currently competing in the FILA Cadet Freestyle and Greco Nationals being held at the Louis and Freda Stile Athletic Field House at the University of Akron. The Cadet division is for athletes ages 15-17. Chandler Rogers and Tyler McLean from Mead High School, along with Joseph Grable from Deer Park High School completed competition today in the Greco portion of the tournament. The tournament is being held concurrently with the Asics University World Team Trials Qualifier. University division finalists qualify for the World Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colorado later this summer.
Chandler Rogers, a sophomore at Mead High School claimed the National Title in the 76kg (167.5lb) Division recording two technical falls and four falls (including a 10 second fall in the championship finals). Rogers was also named Outstanding Wrestler of the tourney with 4 falls in a total of 1:25. Rogers title today earned him a position on the FILA Cadet World Team that will be competing in the 2012 FILA Cadet World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan later this summer.
Tyler McLean (76kg/167.5lbs), a junior at Mead High School finished the Greco portion of the tournament with a 2-2 record and was only one match away from a top six finish. McLean recorded an impressive 2nd period fall over Dontae McGee, 2012 Florida Freestyle and Greco State Champion and Southeast Regional Runner-up.
Joe Grable (63kg/138.75lb), a sophomore at Deer Park High School finished the Greco portion of the tournament with an impressive 6-2 record and 5th place finish. One of Grable's only two losses came at the hands of 2011 FILA Cadet World Team Member, Hayden Tuma of Idaho, who went on to claim the national title.
