PASCO, Wash. - The Washington State Attorney General's Office has charged former Franklin County Public Works director for administration and accounting Dennis Huston, with the theft of $1.7 million from Franklin County. Huston is accused of Theft in the First Degree, Money Laundering and Violation of the Uniformed Controlled Substances Act - Possession of Cocaine. Prosecutors say Huston wrote up false invoices and payment requests for a company that had closed down. Investigators say Hu...ston admitted he committed the fraud and spent the money on cocaine and gambling. Huston is scheduled to appear before Franklin County Superior Court for his initial appearance and arraignment at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12. Assistant Attorney General Scott Marlow will prosecute the case. Huston spent time in federal prison when the U.S. District Court for Montana convicted him in 1986 for a similar offense. The Franklin County Public Works Department hired Huston less than a year after he was released from prison.
