OKANOGAN, Wash. – The Okanogan SWAT team along with Okanogan County Sheriff's Officers have arrested a 41-year-old Twist resident that may have started a small wildfire. No one was injured in this incident.
The original call Wednesday was that the man was armed with a machete, claiming to have killed several people. When law enforcement arrived to the Buttermilk Butte area off of Twisp River Road, they found the people who the man claimed to have had killed. They were fine. The suspect however had left the area.
The man then spent the night in the woods and started a fire to keep warm. The fire quickly got out of hand and spread to nearby vegetation. Firefighters responding to that fire encountered the suspect. Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers says that some shots were fired but that no one was hurt.
Sheriff's Deputies and WSP have cordoned off the area and are searching for the suspect who they describe as armed and unpredictable.
