Mariners' Bats Consistent in 10-3 Win over Rockies

DENVER, Colo. – The Mariners tallied up 14 hits in route to a 10-3 win over the Rockies Saturday afternoon.

Jesus Montero had a lead off walk in the second and Kyle Seager opened the scoring up with a homer to right field.

With two outs in the third, Casper Wells walked an Ichiro Suzuki singled to put runners on first and second. Montero drove in Wells on a single to center and Seager drove in another run, this time a single bringing in Ichiro to put Seattle up 4-0.

Brendan Ryan hit a one-out triple to the gap deep in left center in the top of the fourth. Jason Vargas then gave himself some run support hitting a single into shallow center to score Ryan.

In the sixth, the Mariners loaded the bases to start off the inning with a double by Michael Saunders, a single by Ryan along with wild pitch to move him over to second and a walk by Vargas. Esmil Rogers came in for Colorado Starter Christian Friedrich and gave up a double to Dustin Ackley scoring Saunders and Ryan and moving Vargas to third. Wells then kept the scoring going with a single up the middle to bring home Vargas and Ackley. Ichiro grounded into a fielder's choice as Wells was thrown out at second. Montero singled to right and the two runners moved over to second and third on a wild pitch. Seager and Alex Liddi both struck out swinging to end the inning with the score 9-0.

After shutting out the Rockies in the first six innings while only allowing two hits, Colorado finally got to Vargas in the seventh. Jason Giambi hit a one-out double and moved over to third on a ground out. He then scored on a single by Jordan Pachecho. Willin Rosario ripped a two-run home run to left field to put the Rockies within six.

Montero hit a two-out single in the eighth to move Ichiro over to third, and he scored on a wild pitch to give the Mariners 10 runs on the afternoon.

Shawn Kelley and Steve Delabar each pitched an inning of relief for Vargas and gave up no hits to close out the game.

Vargas, along with some excellent run support, threw for seven innings allowing three runs on five hits.

Friedrich gave up eight runs on nine hits in his five innings of work.

The Mariners will look to end their ten-game road trip with a sweep over the Rockies tomorrow at 12:10 p.m. PT.
