A New Step Forward In Sharlotte McGill’s Murder

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash – There's a new step forward tonight in the investigation into Sharlotte McGill's murder.

About 11 a.m. a Spokane police forensics team began processing a car for evidence, which may be linked to the murderer.

The car, a broken down Buick, remains parked in the lot at McGill's apartment complex.  It belongs to a fellow tenant, and the car battery was recently stolen.

Over the weekend, police released a photo of a car battery found at the scene of McGill's murder, and they're hoping the two may be connected.

The forensics team scoured the Buick for fingerprints, DNA, or any articles that the suspect may have left behind.

Neighbors at the Riverpark Apartments were happy to see the development, and hope it leads to McGill's killer.

"I hope he gets caught soon," said resident Michael Zachman.  "It's going to make everyone in this neighborhood and this complex feel more comfortable.  My first thought was to move, but what's to say it's not going to happen in another area."

Despite the search of the Buick, police say there are still no solid leads on who this suspect is.  Finding him remains the top priority for Spokane Police, and the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, which is processing all the evidence taken today.

Police can't disclose what – if anything – was gleaned off the car today; they're keeping that information very close to the investigation.  But they do say, if something is found, it could help crack the case and bring Sharlotte McGill's killer to justice.

Right now, they emphasize, if you were in the area of South Riverton & Magnolia Thursday morning and saw anything – don't hesitate to call in your tip, even if you don't think it can help.  Police need every bit of information available to close this case.
