SPOKANE, Wash. - Amanda McGrory continued her stranglehold on the Women's Elite Wheelchair Division at Bloomsday, winning her 6th consecutive title with an unofficial time of 34:15.
McGrory used her strength in the hilly portions of the race, creating separation from the pack on the gradual but challenging incline on Government Way and steeper climb on the infamous Doomsday Hill.
McGrory, who won the Paris Marathon earlier this year, finished nearly a minute in front of her teammate on the prestigious University of Illinois Wheelchair Team - Susanna Scaroni, a native of Tekoa, Wash.
The Savoy, Illinois native's fastest winning time in Bloomsday was 32:43 in 2008. Jean Driscoll is the all-time leader with 12 consecutive Women's Elite Wheelchair wins at Bloomsday.
