WALLA WALLA, Wash.—A new veteran center opened in Walla Walla Friday.
It's located at 1104 West Popular Street in Walla Walla. Prior to the opening the nearest centers were in Spokane and Yakima.
Veterans can get support and counseling for mental health issues such as post traumatic stress disorder, and to help them readjust back to normal life.
"What we're really finding is Vietnam veterans and other era veterans coming into retirement and are having an increase in their symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder and really having delayed their readjustment."
In 2010 the Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced that 28 communities across the country would get the additional assistance. There are about 232 vet centers across the country.
They hope to open more, on in the Tri-Cities and one in Pendleton.
