Tuel, Offense Sharp In Crimson and Gray Game

SPOKANE, Wash. – Quarterback Jeff Tuel threw two touchdown passes as Washington State University played its annual Crimson and Gray Game in front of 10,713 fans at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane, Wash.

 

The Cougars went offense against defense for nearly 80 plays and started each drive from its own 25.

 

Tuel completed his first 15 passes and finished the day 19-of-21 for 285 yards along with the two scores including an 84-yard strike to Marquess Wilson on the third play of the day. Wilson finished with four catches for 149 yards and turned in a 41-yard catch from Tuel later in the afternoon.

 

The next series saw Tuel complete all six of his passes for 72 yards as he found running back Carl Winston in the flat for a one-yard score.

 

Redshirt-freshman-to-be Dominique Williams also turned in a solid day, catching five passes for 121 yards including a six-yard score from David Gilbertson. Andrei Lintz had five catches for 88 yards, Bobby Ratliff caught four passes for 47 yards and Brett McDonald made a pair of catches for 55 yards. David Gilbertson went 12-of-16 for 162 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Running Back Leon Brooks rushed three times for 26 yards and also caught four passes for 20 yards.

 

On the defensive side, defensive end Logan Mayes pressured the quarterback throughout the day, registering 4.5 sacks to the led the defense that finished with nine. Toni Pole added 1.5 sacks while Xavier Cooper, Mathew Bock and Dylan Rabinowitz each notched one.

 

Deone Bucannon picked off a Gilbertson pass deep over the middle and Mathew Simmons closed the day by intercepting Jesse Brown along the right sideline.

 

Kicker Andrew Furney connected from 39 yards and Wes Concepcion hit from 24 yards.

 

The 10,713 people in attendance was more than twice as many as last year's spring game total.

 

The final spring workout will be Tuesday at 3:10 p.m. on Rogers Field.
