Northwest's magical run came to an end Saturday, as Colfax poured the defense on strong to win the 2B state basketball title51-40 in Spokane.
The game stayed close in the first half, with the Bulldogs going into the break with a 25-22 lead. The second half was a different story.
Northwest Christian's Austin Friedy hit a three-pointer with 4:08 left in the game to pull the Crusaders within two points, but that is as close as they would get. About a minute later Colfax's Kyle Johnson hit a trey to go up 45-40. Then he hit another one to put the Bulldogs up 48-40, and that proved to be the dagger in the Crusaders' heart.
Colfax's Justin Beraducci led all scorers with 15. Brandon Gfeller had 13 and Kyle Johnson scored 12. Jay Hart grabbed 7 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Northwest Christian's Kwinn Hanson was held to just six points on 2-of-5 shooting. Dakotah Winward only had four points. Reuben Clark led the Crusaders with 12 points.
