SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Central Valley completed its domination of Greater Spokane League opponents with a convincing 64-44 victory Friday night at University High School against Gonzaga Prep to secure the GSL 4A District Championship in boys basketball. The victory was the Bears' sixteenth straight.
Austin Rehkow led Central Valley with 17 points. Central Valley awaits a CBBN team in the 4A Regionals, Friday February 24th at Spokane Falls Community College. With the loss, Gonzaga Prep faces a loser-out district game Saturday against Ferris. The winner will get the GSL's #2 seed to Regionals.
Gonzaga Prep Girls Win GSL 4A District Title
Earlier in the night, the top-seeded Central Valley girls lost to Gonzaga Prep, 73-61, in the 4A District Championship. The Bullpups were led by Lindsay Stockton's season-high 24 points. Freshman Otiona Gildon added 14 in the victory. The Bears now must defeat Mead for the GSL's #2 seed on Saturday.
CdA Loses at State, Lewiston Advances
Coeur d'Alene's run at the 5A State girls championship came to a halt Friday night in Nampa, with a heart-breaking 58-56 loss to Centennial in the state semifinals. IEL rival Lewiston stayed on track for a repeat with a 43-35 win over Highland to advance to the 5A title game against Centennial, Saturday at the Idaho Center.
