SPOKANE, Wash. -

With a newfound hope of winning a 12th-straight West Coast Conference regular season title, Gonzaga appears to be relying a little bit more on the new "Guy" to take them there.

Guy Landry Edi, the junior college transfer who sat out eight games at the beginning of the season because of a suspension by the NCAA, is coming on as of late for the Zags. His playing time has noticeably increased over the past several games. In his last three outings he has averaged 10 points in 23 minutes.

Edi's spark could be just what the Bulldogs need to get those crucial wins down the stretch.

"I do what I'm supposed to do – just not try to be a hero," said Edi of his more visible role. "I just try to play defense, run the floor, get rebounds."

"I think he's getting more and more comfortable just getting out there on the floor and kind of understanding how he can help us," added coach Mark Few. "He can knock down open threes, he can rebound, he's a heckuva defender. And he can get in the lane under control and makes plays. That helps too."

Gonzaga plays at Santa Clara on Thursday. The Broncos have yet to win a conference game, and they just found out that their star player, Kevin Foster, will be suspended for the rest of the season after he was arrested for DUI in January.

After Santa Clara, the Zags stay on the road to play San Francisco on Saturday. Next Thursday they host third-place BYU, and then end the conference season at San Diego on Feb. 25.z
