Americans captain Wilgosh determined to come back from injury

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- For the last month, Tri-City Americans captain Mason Wilgosh has been out with a right foot injury. Wilgosh is rehabbing six days a week, and hopes to return to the team in March. SWX sat down with Wilgosh to see how he is doing.

"It happened to be a Friday the 13th, which of course is a bad day. I didn't know for sure. There was a lot of pain and there's a lot of times in the game where you're like you got a lot of pain but you don't know the severity of what happened. So I don't mind pain. I like it so I like to play through it. I was a little upset but that's the game of hockey and you know that comes with it when you're playing - anything can happen," Wilgosh said.

With Wilgosh sidelined, he hopes to become a more vocal leader off the ice.

"I want to be more vocal and lead off the ice and in the dressing room when I can. I can give my input. Everyone's always asking me how long, how long, how long, and they're always there. When you have a team everyone's family," Wilgosh said.

Wilgosh plans to be back by the playoffs and wants the opportunity to end his career with the Americans on a high note.

"It's really important for me to get back and just be with the guys and make more memories and help out and just give it my last shot here as a Tri-City American," Wilgosh said.
