Southridge boys' basketball hungry for playoff opportunity

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Southridge and Sunnyside boys' basketball will battle for the last Big Nine 3A playoff spot. It is Tuesday night at Richland High School.

Both schools finished 4-10 in the conference. In the regular season they split their two meetings. The winner will play Hanford. That game is set for Friday at Hanford. The Suns say they are excited for the opportunity to make the playoffs.

"Our mindset hasn't changed over the last two weeks. We're scrapping and battling and trying to get back in. Obviously nobody wants to be in this position but when you're there you gotta challenge yourself and see what you're character is all about. I think we've done a pretty good job," said Jason Devere, Southridge head coach.

"We've won two hard games against Hanford and Eastmont. We're excited just to get another chance to keep going. I think we can do well once we win this game and go on," said Matt Mendenhall, senior forward.
