SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 30) -- Central Washington University junior Brennan Boyes (Puyallup, Wash.) has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Week for indoor track and field, the conference office announced Monday.
Boyes cleared a height of 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8 3/4 inches) at the UW Invitational in Seattle on Saturday, tying for fifth in the event. More importantly, however, Boyes met a provisional Division II national qualifying standard in the event and posted a tie for the second-best indoor high jump in the history of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The conference indoor record in the event is 2.08 meters (6-9 3/4) by former Wildcat Cresap Watson in 2006.
Boyes' provisional qualifying mark was one of three such marks recorded by a CWU student-athlete on Saturday. Teammates Kati Davis (Sr., Olympia, Wash./Tumwater HS) and Katharine Lotze (Jr., Benton City, Wash./Kiona-Benton HS) also posted PNQ marks in their respective field events, the women's pole vault and the women's triple jump.
Central Washington will return to action with a pair of meets this coming weekend in Moscow, Idaho. The Wildcats compete in the Vandal Indoor on Friday (Feb. 3) and the Runner's Soul Open on Saturday (Feb. 4).
