After getting piles of snow a week ago Mt. Spokane Ski Area is an appealing option for skiers and snowboarders looking to get away this weekend.
On Friday Mt. Spokane reported 6.5 inches of snow in the last 48 hours. The clouds have blown away, leaving nothing but blue skies and 80 inches of snow at the summit. Other ski hills, including 49 Degrees North, Schweitzer, Lookout Pass and others report similar conditions.
With an expected rush of skiers on all the local hills this weekend, it's a good idea to brush up on your ski manners:
1) Wear appropriate clothing – don't wear cotton next to your skin. Instead of one big heavy coat, it's best to dress in layers.
2) Be prepared for changing conditions – the snow can be powder soft but change to ice in a matter of minutes.
3) Pay attention – whether you're a beginner or an expert, keep your eyes up and know where you're headed.
4) Don't ski on uncomfortable terrain – look at the green, blue and black symbols and only ski or snowboard on runs on which you are comfortable according to your skill level.
