SWX Right Now-Sports for Spokane, CdA, Tri-Cities, WASporting events snowed in by the weather

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- This messy winter weather is affecting the sports scene. Friday's high school practices and games are postponed.

Most of the basketball games will move to Tuesday night. Once the school superintendents in the Tri-Cities cancel school, rules show all athletic practices and games have to move. School athletic directors discuss the challenges caused by the weather.

"Anytime you get a cancellation there's a lot of leg work that goes like I said with buses, officials and so on. When you get a little lead time like we did for this game, for Friday night games, that makes it easier," said Don Schumacher, Kamiakin athletic director.

"We look at the conditions of the roads. You know can people get to the event. The second thing that we look at is the condition of the facility when they arrive. One thing we've been working on all day - we're really fortunate here in the Kennewick School District with a tremendous maintenance staff. Our maintenance staff has been working diligently today to try to prepare our facility," said Ken Murray, Southridge athletic director.
