YAKIMA, Wash. -- This week's Academic All-Star has a great work ethic. He is the type of student-athlete guys want on their team. Even in school his classmates voted him Homecoming King.
"He's a very honorable young man. In everything he does, he commits himself. He does the best he can. In doing it he keeps a smile on his face every time, and he makes the guys around him happy," said Rick Alderson, Eisenhower Boys' swimming and diving head coach.
Hino is a three-sport varsity athlete. He is also involved in his church youth group and Boy Scouts. Jacob decided to combine the two for his Eagle Scout project.
"I'm building bookshelves and painting a room for the Madison house, and they work with the Union Gospel Mission. It's basically a place where children with tough home lives can go there, get tutored, have a place to feel welcome," Hino said.
The senior has a 3.57 GPA. Next year he is thinking about schools such as University of Washington or Washington State University to study pre-med. He also has interest from Western Washington University track and field to poll vault. His options are open with a bright future ahead.
"He's the guy I want to read about in a newspaper, in a magazine, creating something, building something, designing something, something where the mind is used," concluded Alderson.
