Longtime KHQ anchor Dave Cotton, now the driving force behind KHQ.com's NewsBreak online, will be inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame later this month.

Below is the news release issued by Luther College on Friday:

Dave Cotton, a 1986 graduate of Luther College, will be inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame. The Induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Cotton was a four-year letter winner in football and baseball. Selected all-Iowa Conference as a defensive back, Cotton ranks first all-time in school history with 19 interceptions. He also helped lead the 1986 Norse defense that allowed the fewest points in Luther history (89) over a 10-game season.

On the baseball field, Cotton was a three-time all-conference outfielder and is one of eight players to accomplish this during their Luther careers. He played on three Iowa Conference championship teams and three NCAA Division III Regional teams. His career numbers include a batting average of .316, slugging percentage of .494, 63 runs scored, 18 stolen bases, seven home runs, 49 walks, 77 hits, and 50 RBIs, that all ranked in the top-10 at the end of his playing career.

Cotton has volunteered at a number of organizations including Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Special Olympics, Inland Northwest Blood Center, YMCA of the Inland Northwest, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Make-a-Wish. He is also the founder of The Cotton Classic Charity Golf Tournament for Meals on Wheels Spokane.

Since 2001, Cotton has been a news anchor for KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington since 2001. Prior to his move to Spokane, he worked as a production assistant and sports anchor for CNN Sports Atlanta/CNN Headline Sports/CNN International Sports/CNN Sports Illustrated from 1989-2001.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place at the Nobel Recital Hall located in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music at 5:00 p.m. The event is part of Luther College Sesquicentennial Homecoming weekend.

A reception for the seven honorees will precede the ceremony, beginning around 4:00 p.m., at the conclusion of the Luther – Buena Vista University Homecoming football game that begins at 1:00 p.m. in Carlson Stadium. The reception will be held in the Mostrom-Bahe lobby of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and is located in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse compete in 10 men's and nine women's intercollegiate sports.

As a member of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) since 1922, the men have won 155 conference championships. In 1982 the IIAC expanded its championship sponsorship to include women's sports. During this time span, the women have won 64 team titles. Combined, Luther is the only school in the Iowa Conference to capture 219 league titles.
