Washington State reached a rare high point when it went to a perfect 2-0 to start the season. The Cougars will look to reach even bigger heights this weekend.
Washington State travels to Colorado this Saturday for its conference opener.
The Buffalo's home stadium is at the base of the Rocky Mountains, nearly 5,500 feet above sea level. But if the altitude is going to be a factor – whether it's throwing the football in the thin air, or sucking wind on long drives – the Cougars don't seem to be concerned.
"We haven't really talked about it yet," said linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis about the altitude issue. "We'll practice hard and take every rep at 100 percent and I think conditioning should take care of itself."
"I don't think it's going to be a concern," added running back Carl Winston. "We just want to play football, go out there and play Cougar football and try to get a ‘W'."
Even coach Paul Wulff seemed unconcerned about the playing conditions. Instead, he is focused on his team and how well they will be able execute the game plan.
"The bottom line is we have to play well and take care of ourselves, and play great football, and control things we can control," he said. "Whether the opposing team plays really well or they don't, that's not in our control."
With practice finished for the week, the Cougars will use Friday as a travel day. The game on Saturday is at 12:30 p.m. (PT) and will be on Fox College Sports Pacific.
