When the Zags start their season at the end of October, sitting next to longtime play-by-play announcer Greg Heister in the broadcast booth will be a pair of familiar names: Richard Fox and Dan Dickau.
KHQ and SWX made the announcement official on Tuesday. Below is the official news release:
This fall, there will be no bigger or better place to watch all the Gonzaga Bulldog action. KHQ-TV and SWX-TV, the Inland Northwest's most potent provider of local sports content, are pleased to announce not one, but two powerful new additions to our Gonzaga Men's basketball coverage. Dan Dickau and Richard Fox join Greg Heister in the booth for the 11th season of live games on KHQ and SWX.
Dickau holds a special place in the hearts of the Bulldog faithful. Born in Portland, the broadcasting major transferred from the University of Washington to Gonzaga in 2000. An excited Heister remarks, "Dan is a legend for the program. The insight he provides will be unmatched." Dickau finished 7th on GU's all-time assists list before getting snatched in the first round of the 2002 NBA draft. He is the Zag's first-ever AP 1st Team All-American. It's experience Dickau believes will translate to excitement for fans. "I think I bring a ton of insider knowledge and credibility, not only from my days at Gonzaga, but also my NBA career."
"Then there's Richard Fox, one of the great characters in Gonzaga history," adds Heister. 'Foxy,' as he was known around campus, transferred from Colorado and played two seasons for the Zags. The booth will be a reunion of sorts between Dan and Richard, who both roomed together."I think the three-man booth with be a unique dynamic for fans," remarks Fox. "Viewers will see a professional, honest approach to the broadcast."
KHQ will televise16 games this season. Those games will also be seen throughout the Northwest on Root Sports. KHQ and SWX President and General Manager Patricia McRae can't wait. "I think viewers are going to see a new energy this year—and certainly a priceless insight into the game. Both Dan and Richard are very close to Coach Mark Few and the Gonzaga program itself. Fans will have an insider's perspective from two of the program's most successful and well-known athletes."
