When news surfaced that Coeur d'Alene Police had recovered Drew Bledsoe's stolen bicycle, one of the questions that popped up almost immediately in the SWX studios was "how can a bike be worth $5,000?"
Well, as a Matter of Fact, that was just how much his bike was worth. It actually retailed quite a bit higher. Still, you ask "how can a bike be worth $5,000?"
The helpful people at Two Wheel Transit downtown explained it for us.
"What you have in these modern mountain bikes is combination of very lightweight materials that are made to be very still, very light and provide a lot of performance. Bikes that start approaching the pro level are made of carbon fiber. They have titanium bolts and different pivot points in them."
And so on and so forth.
Then he said there was a way Bledsoe could have prevented his bike from getting stolen in the first place. He told me of a local businessman who once had his bike stolen off of his car, so he invented a lockable rack called a Bonelocker - virtually unbreakable.
Now, Two Wheel Transit also sells clothing, like shorts and shirts. You won't catch me in any of that. But what I'm saying is, if you're going to buy a bike like that, do it right. Do the whole thing. Get the bike locked, get a $6,000 bike. It's as easy as riding a bike, right?
